Our friend Terry Smith recently celebrated a pretty amazing anniversary, especially in a small college town, 30 years as the Editor for the town’s most influential newspaper and media outlet, the Athens News.
I first met Terry back about the time he probably started that job, he moved in next door to my older brother and we became fast friends, mostly centered around our love of the Browns and we all would get together every Sunday afternoon for some epic flag football games, sometimes ten guys to a side! This tradition went on for years…
Terry even hired me in the nineties to write a small weekly column for the paper that previewed cultural events in the region for any upcoming weekend, called “The Athens Music Scene,” and we had a lot of fun working together for a few years.
Terry’s a great dude and has a map of the world on his face, and we’re all the better for knowing him. Congratulations Terry and here’s to another 30 years!
